Air Purifiers in India Really Enhance Air Quality

Air Purifiers

Air purifiers have turned out to be a basic necessity in every household in India to enhance air quality. The quality of air in several major cities across the country have gone for a toss. If this is the condition of outdoor air, indoor air is no better. The quality of indoor air is five times more polluted than outdoor air. The only solution to enhance the quality of the air we breathe indoors is to use a home air purifier.

A home appliance that removes pollutants from the air present in a room to enhance indoor air quality is termed as an air purifier in India. Read on to find out how air purifiers work and enhance air quality.

How Do Air Purifiers Work?

A room air purifier generally purifies air by the usage of an internal filtration device in which air is cycled or by releasing charged particles into the air that cling to (and kill) pollutants. Generally, active air purification and passive air purification technologies are available. Active air purifiers discharge ions that are negatively charged into the air, allowing pollutants to bind to surfaces, whereas passive air purifiers integrate air filters for eliminating contaminants. Since all particulate matter and dust is eradicated from the air and deposited in the filters, passive purifiers are more effective, especially the models that use HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters.

Different Methods to Purify Air

A variety of processes exist to purify air in a home air purifier, the most common out of them beingHEPA(High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters and UV irradiation.

HEPA Filters

HEPA filters in a room air purifier remove 99.97 percent of particles more than 0.3 microns in size. HEPA purifiers, which purify all of the air entering a clean room, should be set up in such a way that no air passes through them. They are typically more effective at removing larger and smaller particles. During operation, HEPA filters do not produce harmful by-products or ozone.

They generate electrically charged air or gas ions using charged electrical surfaces or needles. These ions bind to airborne particles, which are then attracted to a charged collector plate electro statically.  As a by-product, this mechanism produces trace amounts of ozone and other oxidants. Plasma air purifiers are a type of ionizing air purifier that primarily intend to destroy volatile organic compounds, bacteria, and viruses through chemical reactions with generated ions, rather than precipitating particles on a plate.

UV Irradiation

Air that passes via UV lamps through forced air in a room air purifier can be sterilized using UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation). These systems for air purification can be freestanding models with protected UV lamps and a fan that forces air across the UV light and the microorganisms are moved past the lamps by the building’s ventilation system.

Ozone Generators

They are often marketed as whole-house air cleaners. Ozone generators are designed to emit large quantities of ozone, a powerful oxidant gas that can oxidise a wide range of chemicals. These ozone generators are used by contractors to eliminate smoke odours after a burn, mostly all unpleasant odours. However, caution should be exercised when purchasing a room air purifier that also emits ozone since inhaling ozone gas is hazardous to one’s wellbeing.

Activated Carbon

Activated carbon has a long commercial history. It is porous and can absorb volatile chemicals at the molecular level but not bigger particles. It’s usually used in combination with other air filtering technologies, especially HEPA. There are other chemical absorbents, which can be a substitute to activated carbon, but they may come at way higher costs compared to activated carbon.

The method of air filtration in a home air purifier improves the quality of indoor air. It’s also one of the most cost-effective ways to deal with airborne diseases in your home without relying exclusively on drugs. Air purifiers are well-known for reducing asthma and allergy easily and efficiently.  Although the activities of building management influence the majority of air quality in a large building, there are things you can do to enhance air quality in your workplace, cubicle, or other workspace.
